for children and adults of all ages

Whether you want to play rock, pop, metal, country, blues or even jazz, taking private guitar lessons with one of our highly qualified guitar teachers in Oakville or Georgetown will have you playing in no time!

All of our guitar lessons for age 6 and up are designed to teach the fundamentals of music in a easy to follow program that incorporates songs that you really want to learn.

Our one-on-one private guitar lessons mean that the teacher can focus on the individual learning style of the student. Private lessons also mean that they are able to learn the type of music they enjoy the most. Also with private lessons a teacher can focus all of their attention on one student at a time. You can take private guitar lessons for 30 min. or 1 hour.

Each guitar lesson will include:
• Learning the songs you really want to learn
• Reading music as it's applied to the guitar
• Chord progressions
• Guitar solo techniques
• Music theory as it applies to the guitar

A complete guitar lesson at the Academy of Music will help the student prepare for a variety of different settings, like playing in a rock band as well as a school band or orchestra. Being a well prepared guitar player can also help with stage fright and build confidence in students of all ages.

How do you learn to play the guitar the right way?
The main focus for all of our guitar teachers is to make sure that their students become well round musicians as well as great guitar players. We want to be sure that every guitar student is prepared for a variety of musical settings.

We do this by covering all the fundamentals of the guitar in each class, not just jamming but learning more about the guitar and the many styles that can be played.

Optional Guitar Exams

Guitar students at the Academy of Music have the option to take annual guitar exams through the Ontario Music Teachers Guild. This means that guitar students and parents can be sure they are progressing and covering every aspect of the guitar in their lessons. The Music Teachers Guild Exam system is one of the only graded guitar programs based on rock and jazz guitar and moves the students towards university and college preparation.

What is the best age to start guitar lessons?
We recommend children be 6 years old before they start guitar lessons. Playing the guitar requires a certain amount of pressure on the fingertips from pressing down the strings.

Children under 6 years generally have smaller hands and might find playing uncomfortable. We usually start bass guitar students at 10 years old Adults can start anytime.
